ARTICLE I: NAME OF CORPORATION
The organization shall be known as the "Navarre Krewe of Jesters, Inc.", here after called "the Krewe", in these bylaws.
ARTICLE II: PURPOSE OF CORPORATION
Per the articles of incorporation, the Purpose of the Krewe is to organize, promote, produce and present an annual
Mardi Gras parade on Navarre Beach, Florida for the entertainment and welfare of the citizens and guests of
same. The Krewe is a community minded organization and as such will represent and maintain the high moral and
social standards expected of members of our community.
ARTICLE III: MEETINGS
The monthly general meeting will be held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Navarre Elks Lodge at 7:00
PM, unless otherwise specified. Special meetings will be called as needed. The Board of Directors will meet as
needed, monthly, prior to the general meeting, date and time to be determined by the Board.
ARTICLE IV: BUSINESS
All business of the association shall be managed by the executive board, as approved by the membership.
ARTICLE V: EXECUTIVE BOARD
The executive board will be members in good standing, elected from the general membership annually, no later
than June 30th of each year.
President:
To conduct meetings, delegate committees, vote only in case of ties. The president will be the person to whom
committee chairs report information prior to meetings to inform of their activity and be placed on the agenda. The
president will have the authority to negotiate and sign all contracts on behalf of the organization.
Vice-President:
To assist the president and preside over meetings in the absence of the President. The vice president has the
authority to sign contracts in the absence of the president.
Secretary:
To record minutes of all meetings, and report same to the membership at subsequent meetings. To generate any
necessary correspondence, and respond in kind to written inquiries.
Treasurer:
To pay all bills as directed by the board, balance accounts, and report balance, income & expenditures at each
meeting. The treasurer will also keep a general journal of business per standard accounting procedures and
prepare an annual financial report no later than April 30th.
Historian:
To keep a record of all activities of the organization including photos, newspaper articles, etc.
2 Board Members at Large:
To provide information to the other board members from the membership and represent the membership at large.
ARTICLE VI: MEMBERSHIP AND DUES
REGULAR MEMBERSHIP
- Dues for regular membership will be $25.00 per year and be considered delinquent if paid after April 30th. For each month, or portion thereof, that dues are delinquent there will be an additional $5.00 charge.
- Dues must be paid no later than April 1st for a member to be eligible to vote for officers.
- A member must be in good standing to have a voice and a vote at all meetings and elections.
- Voting on all issues shall be restricted to one (1) vote per member per issue.
- The membership dues shall be determined by the executive board and approved by the general membership.
- New members will be assessed $25.00 regardless of the month they join the organization.
- Applicants for Regular Membership must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
- Dues for Associate membership will be $65.00 per year and be considered delinquent if paid after April 30th. For each month, or portion thereof, that dues are delinquent, there will be an additional $10.00 charge.
- Dues must be current for an Associate member to enjoy the benefits of membership.
- Associate members of the Navarre Krewe of Jesters:
- May walk with the Krewe of Jesters in our parades. Use of bead poles will be on a space available basis and at the discretion of the Float Committee Chairperson.
- Will receive the Monthly "Jester Journal" when Available via e-mail.
- Will receive a ticket to the Navarre Krewe of Jesters Annual 12th Night Party.
- Will be exempt from requirement to participate on any committee or attend meetings.
- Are ineligible to vote in any Navarre Krewe of Jesters vote.
- Must wear the Navarre Krewe of Jesters krewe uniform during parades. Article VII (4)
- Applicants for Associate Membership must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
ARTICLE VII: EXPECTATIONS OF MEMBERS
To participate in a parade or other Krewe function, as determined by the Board, a Jester shall:
- Be a member in good standing. Attend at least one (1) general meeting per quarter.
- Actively participate in one or more committees (to be determined by committee chairperson).
- Wear the Krewe uniform consisting of black tuxedo tailcoat jacket and tuxedo style shirt. Exceptions to this will be made for drivers and safety personnel.
Any exceptions must be pre-approved by the Board. Failure to adhere to these dress codes will result in member or guest not participating in that event.
It is expected that all members represent the Krewe of Jesters in a socially acceptable manner. Failure to uphold these goals and standards could result in permanent expulsion
from the Krewe by the board of directors.
ARTICLE VIII: COMMITTEES AND MISC.
No committee chairman or general member will be permitted to enter into a contract without approval of the Board and
signatures of either the President or Vice President. All expenses in excess of $25.00 must be approved by the Board
of Directors. Lesser amounts may be approved by the treasurer for the purpose of routine copying, mailings, etc.
Committees will consist of but not be limited to:
- Beads & Baubles
- Community Service
- Entertainment
- Float
- Fund Raising
- Hospitality
- Mardi Gras Ball
- Membership
- Parade
- Public Relations
- Scholarship
At an annual meeting or official Mardi Gras open ball or private party near the beginning of the Mardi Gras season we
will announce the officials for the parade consisting of a Parade Grand Marshall (must be a Krewe member in good
standing), a King, a Queen and a Queen of Hearts. These people will be elected by the membership at large and
represent The Krewe of Jesters, Inc., as well as the community spirit we try to promote. These officials will be
ambassadors for our Krewe and should assist our membership in promoting our activities to the public. |
